U2 Talk 'Emotional' 360 Tour, Tease New Album

When the band returns to the U.S. in May, they 'may even have a new album.'
By James Montgomery

For nearly their entire career, U2 have only known one way of operating: in the hugest way humanly possible. They've set records and broken banks with their music, their videos and their expansive, all-encompassing tours. The same can now be said about "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark," Bono and The Edge's first foray into the world of Broadway.

Though it has just begun rehearsals, the play has already made headlines for its budget (a reported $60 million), lavish costumes and over-the-top staging, which sees Spidey battling foes and soaring high above the audience at the Foxwoods Theatre.

To Bono and The Edge, however, the scale of their "Spider-Man" show isn't really all that different than what they've been doing for more than 30 years now. Case in point, their eternally running 360 Tour, which just began its fourth leg (hitting New Zealand and Australia) and will return to the U.S. in May. And when it does, U2's dynamic duo promise that it will be worth the wait. After all, they may even have a new album to promote.

"When we were here last year, we were just getting used to how to play like that," Bono told MTV News. "We did some really good shows, [but] they just keep getting better and better, though, we're getting harder and harder; tougher. More attitude, more punk rock and more emotional, in another way. This strange thing has happened as the tour's went on; we've been playing new songs. We may even have a new album by the end of the tour."

That would presumably be one of the three new albums the band is working on, though Bono wouldn't reveal which would see the light of day first. Instead, in true U2 form, he championed the revelatory nature of the 360 Tour. Because, really — and, in their case, eternally — the show's the thing.

"The thing about the 360 Tour is, the spectacle is not actually this spaceship that lands in the middle of the stadium ... the spectacle is the crowd, and the ability of the crowd to see each other and involve each other," he said. "There's this kind of call and response that goes on with the band and the crowd, and this sort of strange electric shock that goes through the stands, like a big Mexican wave of music that just travels around this virtuous circle."

Are you looking forward to new music from U2? Let us know in the comments!

Rodrigue Beaubois Assigned to Texas Legends for 'Marketing Support'

by Scott Schroeder

Tuesday, along with the earlier announcement of Dominique Jones, the Dallas Mavericks announced that they have assigned second-year pro Rodrigue Beaubois to their NBA Development League affiliate Texas Legends. With the addition of the two Mavericks players, the Texas Legends will boast an unprecedented seven (SEVEN!) former first round picks on their roster going into tonight's home opener against the Austin Toros.

Except that Beaubois will not suit up for the Legends. Not tonight, not during however long this assignment might last. It's simply, as Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wrote in e-mail following the announcement, for "marketing support."

And that, basketball fans, is where the Legends get too gimmicky.

Some said that the first move the Legends made, the hiring of Nancy Lieberman, the first female head coach in the history of NBA-affiliated basketball, was a gimmick. After sitting down with Ms. Lieberman and realizing how knowledgeable she is, combined with what she's done thus far in her basketball career, I've learned first hand that she was a great hire -- not a gimmick.

HBO's 'Real Sports' Goes Three for Four in New Hour

by Milton Kent

Filed under:

HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," sports television's most reliably satisfying hour, returns for its monthly airing , premiering Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET and reairing through the remainder of the month, with an edition that bats .750.

This month's strongest piece is a follow-up from correspondent Mary Carillo of a story she first did five years ago on a Massachusetts man, Dick Hoyt, who has become a triathlete as an older man. The hook to the story is that Hoyt races while carrying his disabled son, Rick, who has been unable to speak or to walk since birth, when a coiled umbilical cord cut off oxygen to his brain. Carillo, who won a Sports Emmy five years ago, deftly tells the Hoyts' story without permitting it to wander into mawkishness.

Frank Deford contributes a solid examination into the practice of hazing among marching bands at historically black colleges and universities, with graphic descriptions and even more harrowing pictures of violence toward victims. And anchor Bryant Gumbel travels to Austria for a quirky look at the ancient sport of falconry, zeroing in on a female falconer from Oklahoma.

Dominique Jones Assigned to Texas Legends

Dominique JonesThe Dallas Mavericks have assigned Dominique Jones to the NBA Development League's Texas Legends, giving the Legends an unprecedented six former first-round NBA Draft picks.

Jones, the 25th overall pick in this year's draft, will join Antonio Daniels (4th in 1997), Reece Gaines (15th in 2003), Sean Williams (17th in 2007), Joe Alexander (8th in 2008) and Rashad McCants (14th in 2005). Jones, along with the recently reporting McCants, will make his Legends debut in Tuesday's home opener against the Austin Toros.

If five fellow first-round picks aren't enough to make the Legends feel like an NBA team, the coaching staff includes Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, former NBA player David Wesley and coaching consultants Del Harris and Tim Grgurich -- both of whom have considerable NBA coaching experience.

"It's a chance to play," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN Dallas Monday night. "It's a chance to work on his game. I'm sure (Legends coach Nancy Lieberman) will kick his ass, which is great. It's an opportunity. Not many teams have a D-League team this close in proximity, so it's an opportunity for us and for him."

State of the Strikeforce Light Heavyweights

by Michael David SmithStrikeforce's light heavyweight title has been held by three different fighters this year, and two more fighters will vie for the right to fight for the belt in the main event of the promotion's December 4 show. Although the Strikeforce light heavyweight division doesn't have the depth of the UFC, it does have several good fighters and the potential for a bunch of exciting fights over the next year.

So can Strikeforce make those fights happen? If they can, which fights should they book first? And who will be the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion in a year's time? We answer those questions in our state of the Strikeforce light heavyweight division, below.

Kerry Collins Could Start at Quarterback for Titans vs. Jaguars

Kerry CollinsKerry Collins could be healthy enough to start Sunday.

Collins, the Tennessee Titans quarterback who has missed the past two games with a calf injury, was the backup in a loss to Houston Sunday and Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Monday Collins is a possibility to start Sunday against Jacksonville.

"Kerry will be day-to-day," Fisher said. "We'll have a better idea late in the week; if he can start I will let you know."

Collins was healthy enough against Houston to backup rookie Rusty Smith, who made his first NFL start in the 20-0 loss. Vince Young, the Titans' starter much of the first 10 weeks of the season, was placed on injured reserve last week with a thumb injury.

Collins worked on a very limited basis in practice Friday and also warmed up Sunday.

Report: In-Game Purchases To Blow Mobile Games Revenues Past $11 Billion By 2015

A new report from Juniper Research forecasts global mobile games revenues to surpass $11 billion by 2015, nearly double what they were in 2009. All in all, it's a fairly conservative prediction in my opinion, but what's interesting is that the research firm also says in-game purchases will overtake the traditional pay-per-download model, with Apple's in-app billing mechanism leading the way, as the primary source of monetizing mobile games in about two years (by 2013).

Spider-Man Shares 'Lots Of Similarities' With U2's Bono, The Edge

'Turn Off the Dark' musical began previews on Broadway this weekend.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by James Montgomery

Bono
Photo: ShowBizIreland/ Getty Images

After multiple delays, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" arrived on the Great White Way Sunday night amid a series of technical snafus that marred the much-hyped musical, which officially opens on January 11.

With a reported budget in excess of $65 million and original music by U2's Bono and The Edge, "Spider-Man" has become the most costly production in Broadway history and had already been delayed due to technical difficulties. On opening night, the musical had to be stopped five times, according to multiple reports, as the crew struggled to pull-off stunt work that had actors suspended in harnesses high in the air.

Granted, previews are meant for working out the kinks, but this kind of debut is rather fitting. After all, Peter Parker is a work-in-progress, a character forever trying to reconcile his regular-guy mindset with the abilities and responsibilities of a superhero. The show's creators, too, share much in common with the web-slinging wonderboy.

"There are lots of similarities," Bono told MTV News earlier this month. "He grew up in Queens. We grew up on the north side of Dublin — fairly humble origins. He falls in love with the girl next door. I married the girl next door. He starts to put on a silly costume ... yes," he trailed off with a sly smile.

The comparisons don't end there. As The Edge explained it, whether you're an arena-packing rock star or a science nerd bitten by a radioactive spider, you still have to deal with everyday life. "[H]e's a superhero; he can do loads of stuff, but when he comes home, he's put back in his place," the guitarist said. "There's nothing that he does out in the world that means anything when he's with his loved ones."

Hearing this, Bono happily declared he's got more in common with one of Spider-Man's archenemies than the Spidey himself. "I think Peter Parker's more The Edge," he said. "I'm more the Green Goblin."

Said Edge, "You just want to be careful, because you know who wins that fight."

Mike Leach Sues ESPN for Defamation

by Jon Weinbach

Mike LeachFormer Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach gave ESPN an unpleasant Thanksgiving greeting on Wednesday, filing a lawsuit in Texas district court that accuses the sports-media giant of "willful and negligent defamation" of Leach in its coverage of the events leading up to and following the coach's firing late last year.

Leach was terminated last Dec. 30 in the wake of accusations that he mistreated injured wide receiver Adam James, the son of ESPN college football commentator Craig James. Among other allegations, Leach reportedly ordered Adam, who was recovering from a concussion, to stand alone in a dark closet on two occasions during the 2009 season. James shot video of his confinement, and the controversy came to a head when the footage was posted online.

Leach's lawsuit also names Spaeth Communications, a Dallas public-relations firm that Craig James hired when his son's complaints about Leach went public. The suit claims that Spaeth, which orchestrated the "Swift Boat" campaign against 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry, played a central role in leaking the video footage and accuses the firm of "creating public opinion hostile to Leach."

In an email to FanHouse, an ESPN spokesman said the company has "not seen the lawsuit and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to comment." Spaeth did not return calls or emails seeking comment. Rebecca Shaw, the firm's executive vice president, told the Associated Press that Leach's suit is "the predictable strategy of a man who is desperate to avoid accountability for his own behavior."

Ted Liggett, Leach's attorney, said the 49-year-old former coach simply wants to clear his name. "His reputation has taken a severe hit and been tarnished," Liggett told the Associated Press. "On a daily basis we're still seeing stories across the country with accounts Leach claims are counter to the truth."

TNT's NBA Analysts Will Join March Madness Coverage

Charles Barkley covering the Big Dance?

The combination won't seem so foreign by this time next year.

When CBS joins forces with Turner television to cover the men's NCAA tournament this coming spring, a new wave of analysts will be introduced to audience. That is, unless the audience regularly watches TNT's NBA coverage.

The Associated Press is reporting names normally associated with NBA broadcasts like Barkley, Marv Albert and Kenny Smith, among many others, will be involved in coverage by TBS, TNT and TruTV. CBS and Turner will reportedly combine their respective rosters to fill in all game coverage and studio analysis.

In April, the two companies signed a 14-year, $10.8 billion deal to jointly cover the now-expanded NCAA tournament. Home viewers with cable will now be able to view up to four games in any time slot with the new deal.

DWTS finale: Just two dances left!

DWTS_jennifer1123.jpg
There are just two dances left before this season?s winner of Dancing With the Stars is crowned and after last night?s performances, the jury is still out on who will win: Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough, Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer or Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas. Jennifer and Derek finished at the top of the leaderboard (with a perfect 60 out of 60) for their pasa doble and energized freestyle that paid homage to Dirty Dancing. While everyone expected a dance to ?The Time Of My Life,? Jennifer explained on air that she wanted to do something fresh with Derek.

?What was so fun was we had a nod to it [Dirty Dancing] and it was like guess what? That was Baby, this is now,? Jennifer revealed after the show. Despite a perfect score, and the possibility of winning the whole thing, Jennifer is not dusting a spot for the mirror ball trophy just yet. ?I don?t think of that,? she laughs. ?It?s bad juju.? One thing is for sure. Jennifer accomplished what she set out to do with the show - make her daughter proud. ?I think she is pretty fond of me at the moment,? she smiles. ?She loves the show and has been an incredibly sweet supportive kid, so understanding. When I say, ?sorry, I just want to cuddle up and watch a movie with you or just hang out,? she says, ?it?s okay mom, I?ll be waiting for you when you are done.?? And after tonight?s finale, win or lose, Jennifer has family and not dancing on her mind. ?I am invigorated to lay down, do nothing but cook for my family,? she tells In Touch. ?Just be with my kid and husband.?

TAMPA, Fla. -- A close friend of Jon Gruden said Sunday night that Gruden has not accepted the job at the University of Miami and "doesn't believe it would be the right fit."

The source said he expects Gruden to remain at ESPN or eventually take an NFL head coaching job.

Gruden, an ESPN Monday Night Football color commentator who lives in Tampa with his family, is in Arizona preparing for Monday night's Cardinals-49ers game.

Lake Lewis, of the Sports Journey Broadcast Network and a former ESPN radio talk show host, reported Sunday from a "credible source that the next coach at University of Miami is John (sic) Gruden. About 3 Million a year!"

DWTS: Jennifer Grey wins the trophy

DWTS1124_jennifer.jpg
If anything, this season of Dancing With the Stars has been controversial. Whether you believe Bristol Palin deserved a place in the finals or not, there?s no denying she earned it with hard work, improvement and dedication. Following an all-star opening that saw the majority of season 11?s contestants return, (Audrina Patridge was absent due to illness and Michael Bolton is on tour in England) the three remaining couples were left to battle it out with their final two dances for the night.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer kicked off the proceedings, scoring 26 out of 30 for their tango and 28 points for their instant cha cha. Bristol and Mark Ballas continued their respectable scores, receiving 25 for a tango and 27 for their instant cha cha. But it was Jennifer Grey, whose time on the show has been fraught with injury, who revealed early in the evening that she had ruptured a disc in her spine. However, not dancing was never an option and Jennifer and partner Derek Hough scored another perfect 30 for their Viennese waltz and another 28 points for their instant cha cha.

With the dances done all that was left was to reveal the winner. Sadly for Bristol and Mark, it would not be them as the news was given they would be the first couple eliminated. ?I feel I accomplished a lot,? Bristol said after the news. ?I am just so thankful for Mark as he started from scratch with this whole thing.?

As the spotlight turned to Kyle and Jennifer, both waited nervously to hear who would be this season?s champions. Finally, host Tom Bergeron revealed it was Jennifer and Derek. ?I was blank,? said a shocked Jennifer after the show. ?I was in a surrender moment. It?s a great gift to be a part of a show that gives so many people so much joy, that?s what it is.?

There were no hard feelings from Kyle and Lacey either. ?Jennifer worked extremely hard and probably went through the most on this show ? so many ups and downs,? beamed Kyle. ?And for us to get second next to Jennifer is so awesome,? added Lacey.

Nicki Minaj Uncovers Onika Miraj, Embraces Fame In 'My Time Now'

Young Money raptress records Pink Friday, sheds her alter egos as she opens up about music industry and Trinidad roots in MTV News documentary.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Whether you don't get her or can't get enough, it's hard to deny that it's Nicki Minaj's time to shine. And Sunday night (November 28), days after the release of her major-label debut, Pink Friday, Minaj showed viewers of her MTV News documentary, "My Time Now," what life is really like in the spotlight.

Produced by much of the same team behind Minaj's Young Money labelmate Drake's June documentary, "Better Than Good Enough," the film follows the bewigged mic-ripper as she crafts her hotly anticipated album, which dropped on Monday. The curtains are pulled back on the "Right Thru Me" lyricist's hectic lifestyle as she closes in on the November 22 drop date, giving fans a rare glimpse of the Trinidadian-born, Queens MC born Onika Miraj as she grapples with her past and faces her promising future.

Journalists from magazines such as Spin and Rolling Stone comment on the perfect storm of hype that has accompanied the Young Money femcee's debut — Team Minaj's major presence on and off the Web, the impressive list of high-profile features — maintaining that the Queens spitter needs to churn out a pretty much flop-proof album, a task that Minaj readily rises to. With her favorite dried cranberries and almonds on standby — Minaj insists on snacking on the trail-mix ingredients while recording — viewers got an intimate look at the wordsmith in the studio as she crafted Pink Friday.

Fueling the Minaj mania are her turns on the awards-show stage, including her notable appearances at the 2010 BET Awards, which sparked debate over whether the Young Money diva was lip-synching. The chatter frustrates Minaj but ultimately the drama motivates her to really turn it out at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show, where she helmed her first solo televised performance alongside will.i.am.

"I've been led down a lot of dead-end roads," Minaj says candidly about her winding journey to hip-hop stardom, recounting pre-fame gigs as a waitress, customer-service rep and office manager. However, the "Your Love" MC didn't let the roadblocks shut down her dream, and her ferocity is evident in a scene where Minaj lays down the vocals for the Eminem collabo "Roman's Revenge."

"Roman is a crazy boy who lives in me and he says the things that I don't want to say. He was born just a few months ago. I think he was born out of rage," she explains of her disorderly alter ego Roman Zolanski, who fittingly trades bars with Em's belligerent Slim Shady persona on "Revenge." "He was conceived in rage so he bashes everyone and he threatens to beat people and he's violent."

Minaj also breaks down her writing process in the scene, explaining that whatever persona she invokes — whether it's the unchecked fury of Zolanski, the saccharine cheekiness of "Barbie" or the throaty, theatrical wails of Zolanski's mother — the words come to the MC organically.

"When I write a rap, like, my brain doesn't compute, 'Now write rap.' It doesn't. You just have to let it happen and just don't second-guess yourself too much and then it gets done," she says. "To me, music is spiritual, so it moves you in a weird way that you cannot teach in school. I'll hear a beat and words just start coming to me."

The "Check It Out" spitter also sounds off about the business behind the music. In one scene, Minaj rattles off a powerful invective about what she sees as unfair double standards for women in entertainment.

"When I am assertive, I'm a bitch. When a man is assertive, he's a boss. He bossed up. No negative connotation behind bossed up. But lots of negative connotation behind being a bitch," Minaj remarks, while going off about sub-par photo shoot amenities and getting visibly frustrated about an unnamed person who refuses to return a favor to Minaj. "Donald Trump can say you're fired. Let Martha Stewart run her company the same way and be the same way. [People will say], 'F---ing old evil bitch!' But Donald Trump, he gets to hang out with young bitches and have 50 different wives and just be cool. 'Oh, Donald, we love you, Donald Trump!' "

The assertive, no-nonsense Nicki is a side of the hip-hop star fans who've been following her since her "Come Up" DVD and Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape days are familiar with. But in "My Time Now," the Barbie army gets to check out the lyricist's more vulnerable side as she journeys to Trinidad for the first time in seven years for a concert. Minaj greets family members she hasn't seen in years without all of the fussy trappings of a global celebrity, sporting dark, straight locks and a T-shirt. Minaj squeals, enveloping excited relatives in warm embraces and catches up with her kin as they all pile up onto a couch in a swanky hotel. Later, she picks up the tab for a family shopping spree as rabid fans descend upon the mall for a shot of the hip-hop Barbie.

Raised by her grandmother while her parents laid the groundwork for a better life in the U.S., Minaj gets emotional in one scene as she remembers her late elder, who died before the young Nicki scored success. She faintly nods and struggles to hold back tears as she concedes her grandmother would be proud of her achievements, before quickly picking up a mirror to salvage her makeup.

"A lot of times, when you're from the islands, your parents leave and then send for you because it's easier when they have established themselves; when they have a place to stay, when they have a job. I thought it was gonna be for a few days, it turned into two years without my mother," she says of staying behind with relatives on the island nation.

She also speaks about her father's debilitating drug addiction, which rocked the youngster's Queens household.

"When you're on crack, you can't keep a job. And when you can't keep a job, you don't have money. And when you don't have money, you steal. And you steal from your family," she says.

Ultimately, Minaj's story ends on a note of triumph, as she cruises through a Long Island neighborhood in a chauffeured Maybach and tours the home she just purchased for her mother and younger brother, who she playfully ribs as they discuss paint colors, just like any other big sister.

"I am amazed at what I've seen in this film," Minaj said in a statement. She continued, "This film is my heart & soul. The visual component to Pink Friday. My fans are the most incredible humans on this planet. Words could never translate my gratitude. Thank you for standing by me. It's our time now."

Rampage Jackson Worries Lyoto Machida Will Give Him a Boring Fight

That's not what Rampage Jackson did on Thursday morning.

Instead, Jackson went on SportsCenter and described his fight with Lyoto Machida Saturday night at UFC 123 as one that could easily be boring.

Roger Federer Finally Holds Up His End of Tennis' Biggest Rivalry

Filed under:

Say hello to Roger Federer. It's the opposite of what tennis was about to say to him.

Federer beat Rafael Nadal 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 Sunday to win the World Tour Finals in London. It wasn't a major championship, and every last condition favored Federer. It also wasn't even noticed in the U.S. on an NFL Sunday.

But it was a big moment for tennis, anyway, even bigger for Federer. He is 29 now, and Nadal is the best player in the world.

What Federer did Sunday, the whole week really, was to show that he's still here for the fight. Tennis needs that fight. It needs the Federer-Nadal rivalry, the best individual rivalry in sports.

Until Sunday, Nadal owned Federer. It wasn't so much a rivalry anymore as the rise of one, the decline of the other. A rivalry requires not only someone hitting, but also someone hitting back.

Federer finally hit back Sunday. And this is not to welcome him back so much as to ask what took him so damn long. "I guess I had to regain confidence," he said. "That only comes through winning matches."

Judging by the critical response to his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West's love/hate relationship with the media has had little impact on how they view his music. But while concluding his secret New York concert on Tuesday night, the hip-hop heavyweight spoke out on his public image.

After the encore of his Bowery Ballroom set, West reflected on the his career. "As you know, it's been an extremely hard year for me," he said. "But getting back to music, G.O.O.D. Fridays, and the album ... I never thought I'd say this, I wanna thank the magazines for perfect scores across the board. I always felt like I could do anything, but now I feel so fearless. To do an album after the year that I had and after all the 'Your career is over,' 'Die, n---a, die,' and 'You'll never make music again,' and to come back and do 100,000 the first day, digital alone, to be slated to do 600,000 in the first week. I don't talk about the numbers but what that number says is that people want me to keep making music and for me to not give up."

The Chicago MC then brought up his contentious "Today" show appearance earlier this month. "But I ain't here to make no mother----ing politics," 'Ye said. "I'm here to make music. I'm not here to talk in no mother----ing interviews, nobody ask me no stupid-ass questions. We have such a great win. Matt Lauer is not a bad guy, I'm sure."

Soon after, West went on to another tricky subject, the Taylor Swift VMA incident. "When you do things like what happened last year, it's disrespectful for everyone that's created," he said to roaring applause. "It's a smack in the face to everyone who tries to do something real. If I wasn't drunk, I would have been onstage longer. Am I the only one who's not crazy here?"

Yeezy went on to speak about former President George W. Bush and why he said Bush didn't "care about black people" in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Everyone wants to use people and villianize people, even if you take the concept like George Bush," he said. "There is no leader in history that has been a villain in that way that didn't get killed in war or commit suicide, so any man that lives through it, deserves one moment of redemption. Any man! ... Everyone needs a villain, don't we? We need to blame someone at all times. For me to be considered a racist for stating the blatant truth, an obvious truth ... But the nuisances of my words, because I am very particular with my words, and they're an emotion I felt at that time. It wasn't worded exactly right, but everybody came and said ... 'Oh my God, Kanye, I love you so much. I hated you until you said that. Yeah, now you're speaking for me, but now you said something that represents me.' "

Kanye says his Bush callout was misinterpreted, but he rode the media's wave. "And the whole time, I'm thinking in my mind, that's not exactly what I wanted to say, I was emotional. That was not exactly how I wanted to word it. But I rode it. I rode it. Just as Taylor never came to my defense in any interview and rode the wave and rode it and rode it. That's the way that I rode the wave with the Bush comment. It's not about popular opinion."

After experiencing similar backlash from the media, West said he empathized with Bush over the twisting influence of the media, echoing what he'd said during the interview with Matt Lauer.

With another mention of how the "Today" show "f---ed up big time" for playing the VMA incident during his interview, Kanye said that he appreciates and thanks all those that helped him for the better and worse throughout the past year.

"If you're a real artist, have no fear, say what the f--- you want, do what you want and make what you want," he said. "And if it's meant to be, then people will stand up like the people stood up with 600,000 coming off being the most hated person this time last year. ... And on that note, I love you and on my family that came to help me with the album, that came through tonight, flying in on private jets, everything they had to do to get here, everybody in this audience that sat through this whole thing, I know you got to wake up in the morning. Thank you so much. I love you."

Blowing Leaves

So, how cool is being a kid?

My brother-in-law was blowing leaves this weekend and Jack and Nora thought it was the greatest thing ever. I love this photo because they don't have a care in the world. Very lucky kids.

(For the record, Jack doesn't run around in leggings; he had them on underneath his Halloween costume.)

Carmelo Anthony Shakes Off Illness to Hit Buzzer-Beater against Bulls

Carmelo Anthony, Luol DengDENVER -- When Carmelo Anthony walked out of the Pepsi Center late Friday night, it was surprising one of Denver's ball boys wasn't called upon to help him with all the medicine he was carrying.

The Nuggets star forward began to feel sick last Monday in Golden State, a game in which he sure didn't look to be hurting en route to scoring a season-high 39 points. But when Anthony showed up for shootaround Friday morning, his teammates knew something wasn't right.

"You could tell he was feeling bad because nobody was talking to him, interacting,'' said Denver guard Ty Lawson. "He had his hood on. The look on his face said he was real tired.''

Nevertheless, later in the day, with the Nuggets trailing 97-96 to Chicago at the Pepsi Center, there was no doubts who Lawson was looking for to hit the winning shot. With 4 seconds remaining, Lawson inbounded to Anthony, who drilled a 23-footer at the buzzer for a 98-97 win.

Anthony then wearily made his way to the locker room. The shot certainly made him feel better, but not by a lot.

"Terrible. One,'' said Anthony, when asked after the game how he felt on a scale of one to 10.

UFC 123 post-fight notes: Penn leaving career in White's hands

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- B.J. Penn had lost his past two fights as a lightweight, but scored a 21-second win as a welterweight. Penn said he isn't sure where he wants his career to go next.

"For first time in my career, I'm going to make Dana make the call on my weight," Penn said. White laughed and said, "It took 10 years!"

-- George Sotiropoulos is leaving Detroit as a big winner. Not only did he beat Joe Lauzon, he won an $80,000 Fight of the Night bonus with Lauzon, and was already given his next bout. White announced that Sotiropoulos will fight Dennis Siver at UFC 127 in Sotiropoulos' native Australia.

-- The other $80,000 bonuses were given to B.J. Penn for Knockout of the Night and Phil Davis for "Submission of the Night."

-- White was not happy with the judges decision on the Tyson Griffin/Nik Lentz decision. Though Lentz was given the split decision, White said that "Tyson got [expletive]."

-- Though Quinton "Rampage" Jackson asked for an immediate rematch, White shot that notion down, saying that Jackson won that fight. Jackson said that he is leaving his career in the UFC's hands.

"I don't own the UFC, homey. I just fight here," Jackson said.

-- Jackson walked out to the theme song for Pride, the now-defunct Japanese promotion where he made his name as a fighter. He used it to remember the energy of the crowd, and how he used to fight for honor when he fought in Pride.

-- Phil Davis said that his unique submission is going to be called the "Mr. Wonderful."

Hallman quickly TKOs Parisyan to end the UFC 123 undercard

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Dennis Hallman made quick work of Karo Parisyan to finish off the undercard at UFC 123 on Saturday. Hallman knocked Parisyan down with a left and then a right, then finished with six unanswered punches. The fight was called at 1:47 of the first round.

This was Parisyan's first bout back since leaving the UFC on bad terms last year. He was welcomed back but didn't give a particularly inspiring performance. MMA veteran Hallman improved his record to 66-13-2. Parisyan's is now 26-6.

Cal Addressed Fake Injury Issue, Suspended Defensive Line Coach

Cal suspended defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi for Saturday's season finale against Washington for instructing a player to fake an injury in the 15-13 loss to Oregon on Nov. 13.

The announcement came after the Bears lost 16-13 to Washington, a defeat that knocks Cal out of bowl contention for the first time since Jeff Tedford came to the program in 2002.

Athletic director Sandy Barbour addressed the media after the game.

"This is a young coach who made a mistake. We make mistakes in life a lot," Barbour said, according to a report by the Associated Press. "He stood up and he accepted responsibility for it. The head coach accepted responsibility for it and I accepted responsibility for it. That's what we do as educators."

Tedford reportedly said after the game that Lupoi would remain on staff.

Still-evolving Davis ready for pressure at UFC 123

DETROIT -- Before taking on Tim Boetsch at UFC 123, UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis had to face a tough ask. He was in the spotlight at the Palace of Auburn Hills during the Pistons-Lakers game. Davis was given 24 seconds to hit as many free throws as he could. (Watch it here.) For each bucket he hit, $200 was donated to Pistons Care.

By the time he left the court, $1600 was donated. He said he felt more pressure going on the court than he ever has in the Octagon.

"Definitely free throws. Wrestling is what I know, it's what I'm good at. Anything kind of, sort of related to wrestling, I'm good with. Free throws? No," Davis said.

Though he hit eight free throws, he isn't breaking any stereotypes about wrestlers not being able to hoop.

"Let's not wave it off. It can be pushed to the back to the things people say about wrestlers."

Davis was a national champion wrestler for Penn State, and is most comfortable doing that which revolves around wrestling.

"Everything works its way back to wrestling"

"Everything with me works its way back to wrestling. To me, MMA is like wrestling, and I don't know why I've been wrestling for so long and not been punching. Wrestling is so much fun when you can punch people. I don't know why I haven't been doing it."

Davis works with both Alliance MMA in San Diego and American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose. He never wants to get too comfortable as a fighter, so he challenges himself by working with everyone from UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez to bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz. He's learned something from every fighter he's been around.

"I was helped by Jon Fitch and Cain Velasquez, except, most of his tips hurt. I'm always asking for help and they're more than happy to give it to me. Brandon Vera, too, really gave me a sharp kickboxing look," Davis said. "[Cruz] does a bunch of things that blow my mind. When you can move with a guy his speed, and land a few punches, you've got to be in good position and be able to move. He's definitely helped me get my footwork down and be ready to strike."

Davis' striking game is still evolving. He wants to be exciting, but is more focused on winning.

"You can go for a spinning backfist and miss it, or you hit a straight right. I think people will remember the spinning backfist, but if you get knocked out, no one's going to thank you for going for it. There's no style points in MMA. I stick to what I'm good at, and I stick to my game."

His hunger to learn, wrestling pedigree and natural talent make Davis an exciting prospect, but he's not letting it get to his head.

"You can't allow anyone to tell you your worth. That's both positive and negative. If someone tells you that you're the worst in the world, you can't believe that. If someone tells you you're the best in the world, you can't believe that either. You gotta be who you are and know where you're at. I know I get beat up in the gym every day, so it's no mystery. I'm not ready for a title shot."

Florida State Resurgence Takes Big Bite Out of Slumping Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - It was an emotional moment for head coach and quarterback, an embrace that represented their program's return to national prominence. On the other side of the field, a disappointed yet determined coach promised to rebuild his program, in the right way and in a hurry.

Florida State and Florida are headed in opposite directions for the first time in many moons following the Seminoles' convincing 31-7 victory Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

FSU snapped its six-game losing streak to its state rivals, and 30 minutes or so later learned it also had captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division crown by virtue of Maryland's 38-31 win over visiting North Carolina State. The Seminoles will meet Coastal Division winner Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.

Justin Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic: A Cheat Sheet

Get the scoop on the singer's latest album, out Black Friday.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Black Friday, the year's busiest shopping day by far, Justin Bieber will release his album, My Worlds Acoustic. It will feature one new track, "Pray," as well as acoustic reinterpretations of some of Bieber's biggest songs from his first two LPs, My World and My World 2.0.

While fans have gotten the chance to hear "Pray" as well as acoustic teases of "Favorite Girl" (when he stopped by Ryan Seacrest's radio show this month) and "Never Say Never," his musical director, Dan Kanter, tweeted what the rest of the album will sound like, saying, "Loving the percussion... Cajones and congas! Definitely an influence from our travels around the world!"

As for "Pray," Bieber has said he was inspired by a track from the King of Pop himself. "It's a very uplifting song, very motivational," he said. "It definitely comes from the heart. It's very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson's] 'Man in the Mirror' when I was writing it."

The album, which also features "One Time," "Baby," "One Less Lonely Girl, "Down to Earth," "U Smile," "Stuck in the Moment" and "That Should Be Me," was recorded because Bieber wanted to silence his critics. "I really think that I did an acoustic album because there's a lot of haters out there that say, 'Justin Bieber can't sing. His voice is all Auto-Tuned,' " he said. "And there's a lot with production, it kind of drowns out your voice, and it takes away from the singer, over the synths and everything.

"I think kind of stripping it down," he added, "and having it kind of really mellow and being able to hear my voice is why I wanted to do it."

Will you be picking up Bieber's latest on Black Friday? Let us know in the comments!

'Glee'-Cap: Celebrate The Birth Of 'Furt'

We're not sure what was up with that Carol Burnett storyline, but sing along anyway.
By Jim Cantiello, with additional reporting by Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker

Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith in the "Furt" episode of "Glee"
Photo: FOX

This week's "Glee" episode, "Furt," featured not one, but two weddings — and not one, but two Bruno Mars songs. More important, it actually took the Kurt/bullying storyline somewhere. Celebrate with us and sing along!

Do you want a wedding episode?
I do! I do!
Do I want "Glee" in a happy mode?
I do! Do you
Know why I'm crying
When this show
Used to
Be funny and so shiny?
But now I feel sad
For tortured Kurt and lonely Sue
His bully's mad
Kurt doesn't know what he should do
But cheer up, dude!
Your bully's dad is from "Lost" so that means he's totally going to explode.

["Lost" clip of Arzt holding dynamite and exploding.] Anyone remember that from season one?

Do you believe the boys stood up for Kurt?
I do, I do
Except for Finn, who tried his best to avert.
So boo to
Him until the wedding scene where
We saw Finn
Dedicate a sweet song to his
New half-kin.
But why were the pronouns all messy,
She's a him?
I guess "Glee" won't change lyrics unless
It is about transsexuals.
That's right I'm still not over that "Rocky Horror" episode, you guys.

Just sayin'.

Sue Sylvester marries herself 'cause she can't find a match.
Mama Sue shows up but this plot point doesn't attach.
I guess producers had the chance to shoot with Carol Burnett,
So they wrote in a Nazi-hunter filled with maternal regret.

How can I blame them for wanting to include Carol?
Ryan Murphy clearly said, "Sure now, what the hell?"
A shame her singing voice now sounds a lot like her Tarzan yell
Is she coasting on her name?

[Clip of Carol emphatically saying, "I AM NOT!"] [Jim speaks] Sorry, no disrespect! [Tugs on his earlobe.]

[Singing]
Do you want to know how "Glee" ends up? I do! You do!
Sue expels the bully but the school board sucks,
So Sue
Resigns as principal in protest
Mr. Schue
Says regionals are coming next
But Kurt's to do
List includes dodging closet cases
Out to bruise
His porcelain skin with so much hate
He chooses to
Transfer to the private school that's basically paradise for gays.

Let's all praise!
This storyline is great! When's the last time I had such nice things to say about "Glee," you guys? Huzzah, Ryan Murphy.

What did you think of this week's "Glee"? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
